OK folks, I’ve been blogging for a long time now and although I have lost weight, it’s time to get more serious, more motivated and lose more pounds!

I’ve made a lot of changes to my diet, cutting back on sugar and fat, exercising more and controlling my portions. The thing is, I have slipped back into bad habits far too often and it’s time for me to make the biggest change so far in my weight loss saga! Read more »

What works for weight?

Currently more than 1 billion adults are overweight – and at least 300 million of them are clinically obese. Current obesity levels range from below 5% in China, Japan and     certain African nations, to over 75% in urban Samoa. But even in relatively low prevalence countries like China, rates are almost 20% in some cities. Childhood obesity is already epidemic in some areas and on the rise in others. An estimated 17.6 million children under five are estimated to be overweight worldwide. Read more »

Eating Out

Eating at a pub or resturant shouldn’t feel like you are turning your back on all your hard work and nor should it feel like you are not able to have a good meal out. There are always healthier options and you’d be surprised how much waiters and waitresses will help you out if you’re not sure what to have whilst watching those calories.

I’ve had my Mom in law over for the past week and we’ve been doing a lot of eating out as she’s not stayed for long and we only get to see her once a year. So we’ve been dining out most nights. Read more »

Back to normal

back-to-normal
For the past two weeks, my Mom-in-law has been to stay with my husband and I and we have has a busy time together! Loads of shopping, trips away, more shopping and also…eating out al lot!
Eating at cafes and restaurants is something my husband and I don’t do too often and when we eat at home, we choose the healthy option foods and sensible portions. I admit over the last two weeks, I have eaten too many bad things and too much of those bad things! For one week, I only did one session at the gym and the second week I did two sessions, but one of them was not as intense as normal.
Well, my overeating and lack of my normal exercise regime has cost me, and for the first time in months I have gained weight. I gained 2lbs over the last two weeks and I feel rather ashamed of myself. At the same time, I know that it hasn’t been a normal two weeks and we only get to see my Mom-in-law once a year. We have done lots of snacking between meals and lots of puddings afterthose meals! I am glad I went out and let my hair down for a bit, we had a wonderful time and it was lovely to worry a little less about food. But that means I have some serious catching up to do! I know that without Proactol, I would have gained a hell of a lot more than 2lbs, so I am thankful for that too!
If you read my last blog, you will have seen that I’m finally not far from getting the hell out of the obese catagory! Unfortunately with this setback, I am now further away from my goal, when I had high hopes of hitting my it this week. But hey, I am trying to use this as a kick up the arse to really work extra hard now that things are back to normal and I am back eating the usual food and portions.
I am also back to working full time, so there will be less snacking and also more exercise as I walk to and from work everyday.
So things should be looking up from now on. I have a trip to France soon and I at least want to be out the obese catagory by then! But I havn’t got long so I better get cracking!

Stress and Obesity go hand in hand

The benefits of avoiding stress can’t be stressed enough

We often hear about the physical or pathological causes and effects of obesity, but we only rarely hear about the emotional and psychological factors that are involved in either causing or aggravating the problem. Unfortunately, today, obesity is no longer diagnosed only during middle age; it’s becoming the norm to hear that young people in their twenties are dealing with the problem. Read more »

How Your Brain Affects Weight Loss

Your brain is a network of nerves that connect together via synapses.  A synapse is nothing more than a technical name for a gap.  Messages (nerve impulses) need to cross this gap for the nerves to communicate.  Neurotransmitters are the chemicals that cause the transmission of the nerve impulse from one nerve to another.  There are a number of neurotransmitters in your brain and they vary considerably.  There are issues of how many neurotransmitters you synthesise, how quickly you break it down once it has been released, what the threshold of stimulation is for the nerves to release the neurotransmitter into the synapse and so on.
