What works for weight?
Currently more than 1 billion adults are overweight – and at least 300 million of them are clinically obese. Current obesity levels range from below 5% in China, Japan and certain African nations, to over 75% in urban Samoa. But even in relatively low prevalence countries like China, rates are almost 20% in some cities. Childhood obesity is already epidemic in some areas and on the rise in others. Tonight I’ve been reading up on ways to help improve my diet more so and also see where I might be falling into little holes that undo all my hard work!
I thought about it and I don’t really have a lot of sugar anymore. I don’t eat many sweets or chocolate and when I have tea I do have sugar, but I only have one teaspoon and I don’t drink tea often anyways. But I think I have found my flaw….we buy cheap bottles of fizzy drinks from the Supermarket and all of them have Sucrose in it, and I drink them a LOT! Apparently, Sucrose can be a big problem for people trying to get rid of the tummy fat, and that’s the bit I really need to start shifting! Read more »

These days we are all under large amounts of stress, despite the many time saving devices we accumulate. Most of us are aware that stress has a negative affect on our health. What you may not know is that stress contributes to weight gain. Comfort eating is when we soothe our stress, whether it is emotional or physical with food. This applies not only to adults, but also to children. Studies have found that children that are stressed out tend to be overweight. Your brain is a network of nerves that connect together via synapses. A synapse is nothing more than a technical name for a gap. Messages (nerve impulses) need to cross this gap for the nerves to communicate. Neurotransmitters are the chemicals that cause the transmission of the nerve impulse from one nerve to another. There are a number of neurotransmitters in your brain and they vary considerably. There are issues of how many neurotransmitters you synthesise, how quickly you break it down once it has been released, what the threshold of stimulation is for the nerves to release the neurotransmitter into the synapse and so on.
